Two sculptures welcome visitors at San Antonio's City Tower. The sculptures feature two sets of lamp posts made from Pecos red concrete, a color that represents the region's history and culture. Pecos red sandstone, known for its rich, warm color, has been used as a building material in the region. Steel vines wrap around the lamp post while Yucca blossoms provide light symbolizing protection. The native plant’s spikes protect the bloom while its fragile flowers can withstand intense sunlight. Another drought-tolerant plant, the Queen’s Wreath vine, is commonly seen climbing the sides of homes in San Antonio. When it blooms, it attracts butterflies, which continue to migrate through this region. Just like the butterflies, people are drawn to the sculpture’s light, searching for San Antonio’s “City Lights.”
